Want To Increase Growth And Sales In Your Boutique? Here Are 13 Ways To Do It.
Are you tired of not seeing enough traffic to your boutique? Here are 13 ways you can jump-start growth!
1. Send emails to customers
Perhaps the most overlooked marketing channel out there, email produces extremely high returns compared to social media. Consider these statistics:
For every $1 spent, email marketing generates $38 in ROI. Imagine an ATM where you deposit $1 and are returned $38. Not bad, eh? (source: Campaign Monitor)
Email is 40 times more effective at acquiring new customers than Facebook or Twitter. (source: McKinsey)
You are 6x more likely to get a click-through from an email campaign than you are from a tweet. (source: Campaign Monitor)
81% of online shoppers who receive emails based on previous shopping habits were at least somewhat likely to make a purchase as a result of targeted email. (source: eMarketer)
72% people prefer to receive promotional content through email, compared to 17% who prefer social media. (source: MarketingSherpa)
The average order value of an email is at least three times higher than that of social media. – (source: McKinsey)
Chances are you probably have a list of customers stored in your invoicing processor. You can easily export your list, start a free account at MailChimp, and get started today.
2. Create a signup form and share with customers
You can create and share signup forms in any email service provider (ESP) that allows customers to join your super special VIP email list.
3. Facebook Live sales
Like them or love them, live sales have gained in popularity over recent years. They give you the ability to connect in a more personal way with customers. When you establish trust with them through these kinds of interactions, they buy from you!
Commit to consistently running live sales and you might find that it's your biggest sales driver! Running them twice a week to start is a good idea.
4. Upload your email list to your Facebook Page
An amazing feature of Facebook Pages is that you can upload your customer list and Facebook will invite them to like your page. We've received hundreds of likes without directly asking the customer to like our page. Not bad, eh?
5. Invite people who liked your posts to follow your page
This one is like candy for me. There's nothing better than getting free exposure and using it to build the size of your audience. With this trick, you can go through each of your page posts and invite people who haven't liked your page yet. Free likes are pretty cool.
You can click the names of the people that have liked your posts, then invite them to like your business page.
Note: you can only do this on your page.
6. Share your Facebook Live broadcasts from your page to your group
You set up your live sale, go live, and....
No one shows up. I've been there, done that. It's not fun!
This trick will help you gain more exposure by sharing your broadcast to other pages and groups on Facebook. More viewers equals more sales!
7. Create a custom audience from your email list
When I first started with Facebook for business, I thought running ads meant "boosting" my Facebook Page posts. I didn't see any ROI from the attention and effort I was giving so I gave up. It wasn't until later that I learned I was doing it all wrong...
Learning how to create custom and lookalike audiences completely reversed the performance of my Facebook Ads. After I applied this to my business, I saw huge results in ad performance. One of my email lists grew from 400 to 2000 people in 30 days!
A "Custom Audience" is Facebook's fancy way of naming your existing customers (or whoever is on the list you're uploading), creating a custom audience is almost guaranteed to improve your Facebook Ad performance. To do this, go to Facebook Ads Manager, then "Audiences," then "Create Custom Audience." You'll see a screen appear that looks like this:
After you do this, Facebook works through its database of users and matches all of the customers on your list to their respective Facebook profiles. You can now target them as an audience in your boosted posts as well as your ads!
Or... You can read #11 for the REAL benefit of custom audiences! :)
8. Create a lookalike audience
Before I learned this technique, running Facebook Ads felt like throwing darts at a dart board or tossing spaghetti at the wall to see what stuck. I was targeting people based on a common interest who I assumed were interested in what I was selling. However, this approach allows me to use my existing customer data to target people who "look" like my existing customers.
You can use your custom audience to create a lookalike audience. In order to create a lookalike audience, you must have a custom audience. Essentially this means Facebook will go out and find millions of potential customers who look almost identical in interests and demographics. To do this, go to your Facebook Ads Manager, then click the dropdown and select "Audiences," just as you did when you created the custom audience. You can then click "Create lookalike audience" to create a new audience based on your existing customer list.
Now, the next time you boost a post or run an ad on Facebook you can find a highly targeted audience based on your existing customer list. This puts you in front of thousands of people who could potentially become a customer after seeing your ad.
9. Get customers to join your text alert list
Text messaging has the highest engagement rates of any marketing channel in existence. Don't believe me? Let me ask you this...
When was the last time you received a text message and didn't open it?
I always check all of my messages even if they don't interest me. Apple has done a great job of getting me to check each message that comes through!
When you send a text message to your customers, you can be sure that close to 80 percent of them will open it. That's amazing considering that email gets closer to 20-30 percent open rates, which is still good, and social media doesn't even come close in terms of engagement.
You can use this to your advantage by signing up for a SMS alerts provider like mobile-text-alerts.com which will allow you to provide a unique number to your customers so they can opt into receiving alerts from you when you run your sales.
10. Invite customers to join your FB messenger alert list
Facebook Messenger is a new way to get ahold of your customers on demand. It's fairly similar to using SMS alerts, but utilizes Facebook's platform instead of text. New software allows marketers to send broadcast messages to customers without having to message each one of them individually. That would literally take forever...
Services like manychat.com allow you to sign up and share a link with your customers so they can subscribe to your list. We've created broadcast lists with hundreds of customers where we can send out alerts each time we run a sale. This is powerful because it more than doubles our Facebook live viewership and we can send links directly to our Shoppe sales.
11. Promote a giveaway in your FB ads
Using your lookalike audience, you can target potential customers with Facebook Ads to promote your giveaways. All you need to do is shoot a quick video of yourself explaining who you are and what you are giving away, then create the ad and launch it. You can do Facebook Ads at $5 a day for a few days to test the performance of the ad. If you are getting sign ups for your email list at a good rate (at least 5 a day), you can increase your budget a little bit as it performs for you.
Pro Tip: Be sure to clearly explain to customers what to click in order to enter your giveaway.
12. Start a blog and promote it
Ever think about starting a blog? Now-a-days it's extremely easy and you don't need to pay anyone to set it up for you. You can simply sign up for a tool like squarespace.com (which is the site you're on now) and it gives you some amazingly beautiful blog templates to use.
So why would a retailer want to blog?
Simple answer: low competition.
With a blog you can increase your organic reach by appearing in Google Search. If you're selling for a direct sales company like LuLaRoe or LipSense, for example, then you won't find too many of your fellow retailers spending their time blogging relative to the number of customers who are searching for terms like "LuLaRoe Leggings" or "LipSense" on Google. Every day, thousands of potential customers are searching Google to go shopping in your market. If you have a blog with links to your products, email list, or shopping group, you can start to grow your company in a unique way without spending extra time prospecting. The best part is that your blog is like a piece of internet real estate and works for you 24/7 with little time managing things once it's set up.
13. Do live sales on Periscope
Periscope has a unique advantage if you like to do live sales in that you can be discovered fairly easily compared to when you go live on Facebook pages. In order to increase your exposure on your Facebook page, you need to get your customers to share your broadcasts. I've seen many retailers do this successfully and consistently generate 100+ shares per live broadcast.
Unlike Facebook Live, Periscope itself acts like a search engine. When you go live on Periscope, anyone on the platform can stumble across your broadcast by searching relevant hashtags.
With these 13 powerful tactics under your belt, now you have no excuses for not growing your home-based business.
